Haematology and Blood Transfusion is a discipline within the Department of Pathology taught to undergraduate medical students in their third year of training. This course covers the anatomy, physiology, pathology and therapy of the blood and blood forming tissues. It covers a wide range of disorders including haematological malignancies, infections in blood, hemostasis and thrombosis and other aspects of benign Haematology. The course aims to prepare medical and nursing students understand the role of haematology in the diagnosis, management and follow up of patients.
The course also aims to emphasize the use of rationale when carrying out procedures on patients and other haematological investigations as well as their interpretation in correlation of disease process.
