Dr. Michael Owiti George
Professionally am a physician based in Kisumu town, a practising nephrologist since 2008, having successfully conducted the first renal transplant in Moi Teaching and referral hospital Eldoret as the lead nephrologist , became lecturer in the faculty of internal medicine Moi University, a member of ethics committee of Moi University, a member of formulary board of the teaching hospital, and participated in mentoring and graduation of the first masters of internal medicine class. Helped Forster collaborations with other centres of excellence in nephrology namely VU university in Amsterdam (Netherlands) in the doctor to doctor program, Brown University in Rhodes island in USA where I was the local PI and also adjunct assistant professor in th the faculty from 2010. I helped establish the current renal centre in MTRH by joining the Sister Renal centre program with brown University allowing development of the unit, exchange of students and training and research in nephrology. Since I joined Maseno University from 2012, I helped mount undergraduate programs in medical physiology, helped develop and mount medical physiology postgraduate program successfully making the department the first to graduate its masters students in the school of medicine. The program remains quite popular to date with yearly recruitment. I have also helped develop masters in family medicine curriculum which has also been mounted successfully. I am in the process of improving quality of care of renal patients in western Kenya by trying to develop useful collaborations that will allow training and improved services in the region.
