Prof. Ng’wena A. G. Magak
Ng’wena Magak is an Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Medical Physiology at Maseno University School of Medicine. He is also the chairperson of School of Medicine (SOM) postgraduate committee. Prof. Ng’wena graduated with a B.Sc. (Hon) degree in the field of Biological Sciences from Moi University, Kenya in 1991then undertook an MSc degree in Medical Physiology from the University of Nairobi Medical School (1994-1997). He obtained his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from Maseno University in 2004. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Minnesota (UMN)/KEMRI malaria immunology research (2005-2009). He worked in Moi University School of Medicine, Department of Medical Physiology between 1999 and 2012. He is currently teaching at the Department of Medical Physiology of Maseno University where he handles; Cell Biology and genetics, Endocrinology, Gastrointestinal system Physiology and Cardiovascular System Physiology for MBChB and BSc Nursing students. Prof. Ng’wena also handles the following courses for the MSc Medical physiology students in his department: Biochemical and Biophysics principles in physiology, Cell Physiology and Medical Genetics, Medical Endocrinology, Blood and Immune Mechanisms, Gastrointestinal system, Nutrition and Metabolism and Cardiovascular System Physiology. He has over twenty years of teaching and research experience and has supervised several Masters and PhD students. He is a member of the Society of Neuroscience in Africa (SONA), the International Society of Neuroscience (ISN) and the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO).
