Department of Psychiatry
Our Vision
To be a regional center of excellence in psychiatry training and research, innovative healthcare provision with modern perspectives in psychiatry. The department is currently reaching out to partners in research projects and adjunct faculty. We do source and undertake consultancies and participate in innovation grants. We also strive to publish a minimum of two research articles yearly in peer reviewed journals. The department, also participates in curriculum review, annual staff appraisal and involves students in staff assessments. This has since developed in leaps and bounds culminating in production of the first MBChB graduates of Masen University in April 2018. We are in the process of developing the curricular for the Master of Medicine in psychiatry MMed (Psych) of Maseno University as the department believes in expansion, diversification and developing postgraduate programs in psychiatry.

About the Programme
The department of psychiatry is a relatively young one and consists of two staff members currently. It was established in 2014 by the senate. It strives to play its rightful role by being committed to teamwork, strong collaborative linkages, and willingness to adapt to innovative teaching and examination methods. The department strives to train medical students who will become doctors with the following qualities; ethical practitioners with appropriate doctor/patient relationships, acquire excellent theoretical and clinical skills, lifelong learners, and team players with excellent communication skills. Produce professionals with a firm theoretical and practical background knowledge in Information Technology.
Duration of the Programme
The duration of the program shall normally be six (6) academic years.
Teaching methods in all units shall include lectures, field trips, seminars, tutorials, discussions, and practical.
