Mission Statement

To disseminate knowledge of pathology to our students and to foster scholarship among our faculty through relevant research and innovation

Objectives

At the end of the course in pathology, the undergraduate student should be able to

1.    Explain the concepts in General and Systemic Pathology, Haematology and Blood Transfusion, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Chemistry, Molecular Pathology and Forensic Pathology.

2.    Explain how various tissues respond to disease and describe the pathologic features of affected tissues

3.    Explain molecular basis of various disorders including tumours.

4.    Describe the pathology to genetic/congenital and acquired disorders of the various body systems

5.    Describe the scientific basis of laboratory techniques used in the investigation and management of clinical disorders.

6.    Perform some basic side-room laboratory tests applied in the diagnosis and management of patients

7.    Describe haemostasis, blood groups, blood group serology and blood transfusion service and to be able to apply to the blood transfusion process.
