The Family and Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Maseno University commenced in September 2014 as the first Masters of Medicine (MMed) degree program at the University, with full approval and recognition of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentistry Board. The goal of the program is to produce a unique medical practitioner, with advanced knowledge and skills in research and innovation and with expertise in triaging, early referral and precise treatment of patients served. By virtue of the unparalleled structure of this program, as a combined degree program, additional emphasis is placed on emergency preparedness and care. The specialist completing this program will be well suited to provide effective, comprehensive and cost-effective patient and community-centered care to people from all socio- economic backgrounds.
Vision
This programme in Family and Emergency Medicine (FEM) aims to produce unique medical practitioners with advanced knowledge and skills in both disciplines who can assume leadership roles, develop high quality preventative and acute care programs communities, and directly care for most all acute and chronic medical conditions. These doctors will be well-suited to provide compassionate, effective, patient and community-centered, and cost-effective care to people of all socioeconomic backgrounds.
